Lena Loves… Babywrappers

Babywrappers are back on Listen to Lena! Just in time for the Spring One of A Kind Show, let me refresh your memory on why these baby towels are one of my all-time FAVOURITE items for baby!

“Babywrappers are so unique and versatile you will never use another towel again for your baby’s bath. The Babywrapper hangs like an apron around your neck while protecting you from getting a bath yourself! This oversized bath towel was designed to be large enough to completely wrap your baby in it and light enough to comfortably feel your wiggly baby through it. When bath-time is over simply pick her up with your 2 free hands and place her on your chest, wrapping the towel around her. Your baby will enjoy cuddling up against you and will love the feel of the soft absorbent terry cloth towel around her. You’ll be amazed at how easy bath-time can be!”

Babywrappers are the invention of Canadian mom Dina, who found bathtime a challenge in her small bathroom. Inspired to improve her experience, Dina sewed up an apron-like towel that secured around her neck to protect her outfit while baby splashed about. Et voila! With her creativity and focus to bring the product to market, bathtime became easier for moms everywhere!

Because I stocked up on Babywrappers before Ryder arrived, we never had to endure the frustration of drying off a wriggly, slippery baby. But with fellow moms, it was constantly a topic of discussion – how to avoid being splashed, where to put the towel while lifting baby, and most important, how to keep baby warm during transportation from tub to bed/change pad. Babywrappers solve all of these problems!

Click here to see how Babywrappers work.

Babywrappers are available in a large selection of colours and textures, including waffle, gingham, velour, camo and more. They are quite honestly one of the perfect gifts for a mom-to-be – and you can forget all the standard hooded bath towels that are usually on baby registries. They do not work. They will be thrown out. Even after we purchased Babywrappers I received a few hooded towels at my baby shower, and could not believe how they paled in comparison with respect to quality, size, and of course, user friendliness!

Check out some of the newest colours in Babywrappers:

The towels took Ryder through to his first year of life, and then he became too big for them. But that’s okay – they’re perfect for Reid to enjoy – and he does now, every time he takes a bath.

Dina recently introduced 30″x35″ stroller blankets in the same great variety of colours as the Babywrappers; they’re soft, supple and a truly wonderful way to keep baby warm during all those early spring walks. You won’t be able to resist stroking the blanket along your cheek… I am certain they’ll soon become your baby’s favourite blankie. I love having a selection of quality blankets; one for the car, one at grandma’s… really everywhere, now that I think of it!

Visit Babywrappers at the Spring One of A Kind Show from March 30th to April 3rd – just stop by booth Q-16 and tell Dina you heard about Babywrappers on Listen to Lena!

Build-A-Bear Workshop Spring Lineup!

Just in time for Easter, Build-A-Bear Workshop has released some beyond adorable furry friends! Come meet the latest additions to their Spring lineup – that’s Swirly Lamb and two of the newest Limited Edition Small Frys, Summer Hugs Bear and Happy Chick shown above! (How cute is that little chickie?)

And, Build-A-Bear is your one-stop Easter shop: Starting March 18th, you can make your own Beary Limited edition Daisy Bunny ($18) or Swirly Lamb ($18) at Build-A-Bear Workshop and buildabear.com. For a limited time, you’ll also receive a FREE basket and candy gift with a purchase of $20 or more while quantities last. (Do remember to personalize your gift with a Build-A-Sound message that you record for an additional $8).

When I was young, it was customary to give chocolate for Easter; every year I’d look forward to a large, hollow egg with a tiny prize nestled inside. Later, plush Easter bunnies became all the rage. So I’d say that this Build-A-Bear gift set combines the best of both worlds!

I’ve been to Build-A-Bear a few times, but I’ve never come across their Small Frys! They’re just 7-in tall, and arguably the cutest little animals I’ve ever seen. I’m particularly in love with the Camo Bear pictured below – I die!!

For more information, visit buildabear.com.

MOS: Little Soles $25 for $50 Voucher

Keeping up with all the daily deals is a full time job. In fact, sometimes the selection is so overwhelming, I give up halfway down my Onespout list. Sheesh.

So it’s a wonder I was able to extract this bargain: from Mother of a Sale, grab a $50 voucher to Little Soles for just $25. I LOVE this deal! Little Soles is a proudly Canadian company and offers the über-popular Eco Squeaky shoes. The deal is on for the rest of the day, so be sure to grab a voucher!

Britax’s “Stroll Your Way” Event

Since most of my readers know that I have two little boys two years apart, I’m regularly asked for my input on double strollers. I can usually answer all their questions by attaching one link:

http://www.listentolena.com/2010/10/lena-loves-britax-b-ready.html

Yes, that’s my review of the Britax B-READY modular stroller. It is still my favourite stroller and the one I recommend most to families with little ones, or to parents who know they’ll be trying for another little one soon. Quite simply, it’s the most versatile stroller on the market today, with 14 possible configurations and the ability to fold two seats in a standing fold. Oh, B-READY, how I love thee!

Now for readers in the market for this amazing stroller, please take note – it’s Britax’s “Stroll Your Way” Event!

From March 1 – June 30, 2011 (while supplies last), parents who purchase a B-READY stroller will have their choice of: One free BRITAX Bassinet ($159.99), Second Child Seat ($159.99), or a $159.99 credit toward a Chaperone Infant Car Seat (normally $269.99).

(Readers in the US can take advantage of a similar promotion – the only difference being that in addition to the bassinet and second child seat, they’ll also have their choice of a FREE Chaperone Infant Car Seat  - lucky!)

“We know that a stroller is a big purchase for parents, and it’s one that they’ll likely use for several children,” said Jon McGuire, BRITAX director of marketing. “Our Stroll Your Way Event allows parents to save significantly while customizing their stroller to fit their lifestyle.”

Kudos, Britax, KUDOS!

Spotted: MD Moms at The Safety Superstore!

I LOVE The Safety Superstore (or Baby Proofing Plus, as they’re known online). They have the largest inventory of – you guessed it – baby proofing gadgets, in addition almost everything you need for baby: car seats, strollers, shoes, feeding, toys… you name it, they’ve got it.

On a recent trip, I was just about to leave the store when I noticed that they now stock my all-time favourite line of skin care for babies – MD Moms Baby Silk! This is AMAZING news for all my girlfriends in the GTA who have been looking for the coveted line of pediatrician developed products in-store; sometimes you need to feel and/or smell the item to appreciate its quality to the full extent. The goodies are also available online - and check back frequently as The Safety Superstore is great about running promos.

(Canadians can also purchase MD Moms online – and enjoy FREE shipping – through babybot.com)

Have you read my testimonial of the Gentle Scalp Rub? It’s the CURE for cradle cap!

BABYBJÖRN Babysitter Balance

Sometimes you’ll discover an ingenious product and think, “Damn – my first kid missed out!” And that’s exactly how I feel about the BABYBJÖRN Babysitter Balance.

With an ergonomic design and molded seat, a calm, natural rocking motion and the ability to help refine your child’s motor skills and balance, it is undeniably in a class all its own. But what makes it even better is that my little guy LOVES bouncing away. He is truly content to stay in his Babysitter Balance for as long as I need to have my hands free (and even longer sometimes), and it’s the only bouncer he hasn’t fallen out of (believe me, he tries to get out of everything).

Now I’ll admit it – the very first thing that attracted me to this product was its looks. With clean lines, a modern design and sophisticated colour schemes (no bright green dinosaurs in sight) the bouncer suits our tastes perfectly. Set up took exactly 1 minute – simply unfolding the bouncer and selecting a position – as opposed to traditional bouncers, which require tools and patience. And the bouncer folds flat for transportation and storage, making it our preferred babysitter when we’re on the go.

I love the bouncer’s three positions: play, rest and sleep. We started Reid on “sleep” mode, but the curious little guy would constantly lean forward to get in on the action around him. So we quickly adjusted him to “rest” mode, and this is actually his perfect position for the moment (“play” is an upright position which is slightly too severe for his tastes). Did I mention that you can adjust the position without disturbing baby? Just another one of its design features you’ll love. As for Reid, he bounces, bounces and bounces away, and as the maximum weight capacity is a whopping 29 lbs in play mode, he has a LOT more fun to look forward to! A bonus: no batteries needed!

The Babysitter Balance rocks back and forth with the child’s own movements. Reid has adopted a bit of a foot-slapping technique; he likes to smack his foot down as he picks up speed. This is in no way required to make the bouncer move – just a quirky little habit of my baby.

With a little help from the theme song of The Young & The Restless, here’s the bouncer in action (set in the rest position):

Yes, I am grooming another generation of Y&R fans.

You can see that as soon as the rocking motion slows to a stop, he begins to wind back up again. He normally keeps this up until I remove him!

The Babysitter Balance was developed in close collaboration with pediatricians, and is the result of over 45 years of product development and experience. It boasts proper back and head support and a molded seat which distributes baby’s weight evenly. Now a few moms have asked me about the safety features – in the absence of a three-point harness, some parents may be nervous about their child’s ability to stay firmly secured in the seat. However, the safety harness is aligned correctly and designed to safely hold children within the weight capacities – and should be removed when the child is old enough to climb in/out on his own. Here’s a quick video showing Reid trying to break out of the bouncer – and proof of the fact that he’s not going anywhere (set in the play position/>

The Babysitter Balance cance comes in six (6) hot colours with reversible fabric. The bouncer is also available in the Balance Air, an airy and pleasant version, and the Balance Organic, made from soft, organic cotton. You can find it at most retailers of baby goods and it is worth every penny. It is 100% Lena-Approved!

Cheerios First Foods Giveaway

*The following giveaway is open to Canadian residents only.*

In a previous post, we chatted about some of Ryder’s most memorable milestones. At the top of my list was his introduction to finger foods – and the beginning of his love affair with Cheerios.

In my opinion, Cheerios are the PERFECT finger food. They are easily managed by little fingers and help develop motor skills because the O’s are easy to pick up, firm and resist crumbling. And they happen to be delicious!

Now Ryder has always been a picky eater, but he’s always in the mood for Cheerios. In fact, he’ll cheerfully give up just about any food and swap it for a bowl of his favourite cereal (including my famous lasagna – who is this kid?)

I must admit that I’ve spent more than my share of time Googling, researching and chatting with moms about how to win over a picky eater. Ryder generally doesn’t mind trying new foods, but he’s a creature of habit and rejects new tastes and textures quickly. I’m constantly looking for new tips and tricks to get him to increase the variety in his diet.

(Thankfully for every ying there is a yang; Reid will eat just about anything that is put on a spoon or on his tray. Phew.)

So I’m particularly happy to spread the word about the new First Foods section at babycenter.ca, brought to you in partnership with Cheerios!

“Wondering if it’s time to buy a highchair, or if you should wait a while? Or what to feed your baby first? Or maybe you’re looking for some inspiration, some new ideas to try on your little one. Our starting solids section contains tips and tasty recipes your baby will love. We also answer all your questions about foods to avoid giving your baby and why, and how to cope with food allergies and intolerances.”

The First Foods section is chock-full of informative articles, kid-friendly recipes (I LOVE Annabel Karmel’s Hidden Vegetable Bolognaise), advice from the experts, videos, polls, and even useful pages that you can download and print.

It also includes help with picky eaters! Check out these articles on How can I encourage my baby to like savoury foods? and How can I get my baby interested in solid food?

Another bonus: You’re probably already familiar with babycenter.ca; it’s your one-stop for everything pregnancy and baby! I have fond memories of tracking both boy’s weekly progress during my pregnancies, and now, I’m a frequent visitor to their “Potty Training” and “Toddler Sleep” sections.

So if you’ve got questions about first foods, are looking for healthy and tasty recipes, or if you’d just like to sit back and enjoy some pretty awesome videos on baby/toddler nutrition, do visit the new First Foods section!

Lena Loves… Pampers Gifts to Grow Rewards

If you’re a new parent, chances are your little one is in Pampers. Chances are even better that you collect Gifts to Grow rewards points. And if you don’t, I have two words for you:

Tisk. Tisk.

It’s okay, I was once there too. After Ryder was born, I fecklessly through away several packages of diapers – noting the little bar code stickers inside but not giving them much thought. It was only after a night of complete baby-induced insomnia that I actually looked up what “Gifts to Grow” points were all about. Then I quickly did the math; Ryder was destined to be in diapers for at least two years (ahem, going on three) and therefore, there were ample points to collect over the years. And ample points mean ample rewards!

In the past year, I’ve redeemed points for a gift card, trio of baby books, building blocks and even taken my chances in a draw for a year’s worth of Pampers diapers and wipes. And now, I’m THIS CLOSE to grabbing the Radio Flyer Big Flyer! Ryder will have the coolest big wheel on the block!

This year, Pampers has teamed up with celebrity mom Bethenny Frankel to celebrate all the wonderful things parents do each day for their babies and families that make them real, Unsung Heroes! Recognizing parents for all their hard work and dedication to their family, Pampers is unveiling a new year of gifts, incentives and rewards from their Gifts to Grow catalog that families can earn by purchasing Pampers branded products.

“To kick off a new year of Gifts to Grow and celebrate parents everywhere, Pampers and Frankel launched a Facebook contest and other activities to award parents for all they do each and every day. Parents can now visit the Pampers Facebook page to nominate a friend, family member or even themselves to be recognized as a real “Unsung Hero”. Parents will also be able to receive special incentives and rewards from Gifts to Grow, as well as enter to win a signed diaper bag from Frankel.”

Here’s a quick video of Bethenny chatting about Unsung Heroes:

If you currently collect Gifts to Grow points – congratulations! You’re one step closer to claiming wonderful rewards for your child – or yourself (you unsung hero, you!)

And for all others, what are you waiting for? It’s time to be rewarded for all that you do, including the numerous (and often, unending) diaper changes. To learn more about Pampers Gifts to Grow, please visit www.pampers.com.

Pampers has generously offered one Listen to Lena! reader the chance to win a Gifts to Grow Unsung Heroes prize pack, including a diaper bag autographed by Bethenny Frankel, a package of Pampers diapers, and a Magnetic Tabletop Easel from Alex Toys (just one of the many fabulous rewards you can grab with your points!)

Warm Buddy Baby Blankets

Brrr… it’s cold outside. One of the perils of living in Canada – this thing called “Winter”. On the bright side, Ryder gets to snuggle up to his Warm Buddy Beary, and I tuck a Body Wrap in between the sheets to make my bed oh-so-tropical. Warm Buddy heat therapy products are the perfect way to relax and rejuvenate with warmth and comfort – especially when its 30 below outside!

But did you know that Warm Buddy also offers non-heated items? From scarves to slippers, robes to throws, the company creates ultra plush and luxurious products that add just another dimension of warmth and comfort -  especially welcome on cold winter nights. Warm Buddy graciously sent Baby Reid a welcome gift – a Baby Blanket with Mini Kat – and both mama and baby are in love.

(Now I just had to settle on the Leopard print – after all, Reid will outgrow the blanket, but I’ll always need a light throw on my lap while typing!)

I wish you could feel how thick, soft and luxurious this blanket is. It’s quite possible the plushest blanket I’ve ever felt – and trust me, I’ve felt tons. You hand will glide effortlessly over the silky surface, and you won’t be able to resist bringing the blanket to your face to stroke it softly. I’m not embarrassed to admit I’m doing just that as I type. Mmmm. So plush.

Also evident is the superb quality – every seam, stitch and fold is just so, echoing the same standards of quality represented by all Warm Buddy products. And why not? It’s MADE IN CANADA. In fact, after several washes, the blanket actually feels and looks better than a brand new one I purchased from a very upscale retailer. It’s completely fabulous.

And I know I’m hogging this review – technically, I should be writing about how much my baby loves it. Let’s just say that he doesn’t travel very far without it…

Did I mention that Reid loves chewing on Baby Kat? The little toy has collected her fair share of drool!

From the website: “Wrap your baby in ultimate softness. Each blanket comes with a tiny version of our cozy and comforting Dream Pet Mini Bear. The Leopard baby blanket comes with Mini Kat. Mini Pets are not to be heated. Machine washable ultra plush material. Made in Canada. 28″ X 32″. Retail Price: $39.95.”

Colour options include chocolate/pink bubble two toned, chocolate with green polka dots, cream, pink and leopard with mini cat.

Word of advice? Be a good friend, and buy this Baby Blanket for a wee one you know. Baby and Mama will thank you – especially on winter nights like this one!
