The Walmart Crib

For some reason unbeknownst to me, my bestie insists on sending me these “People of Walmart” forwarded e-mails. Of course, she unfailingly receives them from another Listen to Lena! reader, who shall remain anonymous at this time.

The forwards consist of a variety of Walmart customers, all caught in compromising situations. Obese shoppers wearing skin-tight spandex seems to be a common theme, as does the combination of fishnet stockings and a mustache. I usually regard the photos with a mixture of hilarity and disgust – wanting to avert my eyes, and yet scrolling on the next picture.

Yesterday, however, she sent what I consider the all-time funniest (most appalling?) “People of Walmart” photo ever – The Walmart Crib. The picture depicts Black Friday shoppers who are both scoring some fab deals and allowing their baby to take a nap.

OMG. Please don’t try this… ever.

Walmart: Braun Series 3 Shaver Just $79.96

This is an AMAZING deal! You can definitely put a smile on your guy’s face this season – just be sure to have one of these babes wrapped under the tree!

This week at Walmart, the Braun Series 3 Electric Shaver is just $79.96, down from $139.96. Now, before I go into the specifics, it’s definitely not as posh as the Series 5 and Series 7 lines, but really, some people just don’t have $300 to splurge on an electric razor. (Mike will be reading this, and should be hanging his head in embarrassment that he did drop over $250 on his Braun Series 5. I mean really, why can’t you just make do with good old Gillette? Bah.)

Anyhoo, here are the deets:

The new Series 3 has a breakthrough shaving head to give you incredibly smooth skin. The Triple Action Free Float System consists of three independently floating shaving elements that provide unprecedented effectiveness in shaving. The smoothly floating foils offer great comfort during the shave and the 3 independently floating heads shave both short and long hairs in fewer passes, for maximum comfort.

New Braun Series 3 also features a better ergonomic design. Its shape adapts easily to the user’s hand, while the increased usage of soft material delivers a very comfortable grip and enhances control of the shaver.

If this sounds good to you, be sure to grab one before they’re gone!

Walmart: Two $25 iTunes Cards for $40

This season, why not give someone the gift of music? Visit Walmart before December 6th, and you’ll be able to purchase two $25 iTunes gift cards for just $40. With the $10 back to you, I’m thinking you should definitely grab some Christmas CHOCOLATE!

Note: According to a reader on Red Flag Deals, you can also purchase just one card at $20. But since this isn’t what the original promo states, I don’t want to mislead ya’ll.

Spotted: Bosch Tassimo Just $99.00

Got a grumpy gus on your Christmas list? Maybe they just need some quality caffeine!

While walking through my Walmart Superstore yesterday, I spotted the Bosch Tassimo coffee maker for just $99.00 (an insanely good price as they retail almost everywhere for $159.99).

We’ve had our Tasssimo for a long time now (ever since Bosch bought it from Braun), and I can honestly say it’s the best thing to happen to our marriage EVER. (Well, other than the addition of our bouncing baby… I suppose.)

Mike loves that he can have Starbucks coffee on demand. I love that the Starbucks T Disc only costs $0.75 per cup (or $0.58 per cup if you purchase the 4-pack from Costco). Available in House, Cafe Verona, Breakfast Blend and African Kitamu, I don’t begrudge Mike having more than a cup a day (and he does).

I love that I can enjoy rich, frothy cappuccinos made to just the right strength and sweetness. Mike loves that I don’t force him to bark complicated instructions at a barrista in order to get my cappuccino just right.

I love offering my guests the choice of coffee, tea, espresso, cappuccino or hot chocolate – in 60 seconds or less. The machine consistently produces hot, fresh beverages that will make you snub coffee shops in favour of the comfort of your home. Mike loves that I am a cordial host who thinks of her guests and their preferences.

And hands down, there’s simply nothing that bonds a couple like downing espressos after dinner at 8pm in the vain hope of staying awake for a few more hours, even though you’re just beat.

I think the Bosch Tassimo is the perfect gift for YOU. A bonus: when you register your machine online or by calling the customer service number, they’ll send you two coupons for FREE T Discs (alas, the promo does not include Starbucks T Discs, but you can still choose from a great selection of Nabob products, including the awesome cappuccino).

And that concludes another edition of “While Walking through Walmart…”

RCSS Coupon Zone

I’ve wanted to blog about this for some time now, but always seem to forget my camera when I go grocery shopping (I take a different purse – the one with all the organized coupons inside!)

Anyhoo, the Real Canadian Superstore Coupon Zone is a spot of heaven for coupon clippers such as myself. You can literally save tons of money with manufacturer’s coupons that can be used at any store. The Superstore in Mississauga is always well stocked and can’t imagine going into the market without at least pausing to see which coupons are valuable to me.

This week, I’m super glad that I grabbed a bunch of Gilette Razors coupons (Save $4 on ANY Fusion, Breeze or Embrace razors). Thanks to Walmart’s Anniversary Sale – from September 25th to October 2nd, Walmart has the Venus Disposable Razor PLUS Bonus Shave Gel on sale for just $5 (reg. $8.88), which means that my legs are about to get satiny-smooth for just $1!!!

If you have a Real Canadian Superstore near you, be sure to check out their coupon zone. If there’s a product that you use all the time and would love to grab coupons for, send me an e-mail and I’ll check out the zone; if I can find the coupon, I’m happy to mail a bunch to you.

Walmart Anniversary Flyer – Part Two

After some confusion regarding how long the Walmart Anniversary Sale is on for, we finally have our answer – it’s on until October 2nd, BUT, there are two parts: the last flyer covers items on sale until the 24th, and the next flyer will cover sales until the 2nd. However, to make things complicated:

1. Some advertised items will be on sale for both weeks
2. Some unadvertised items will also be on sale for both weeks
3. New items will be on sale in week 2 only

So here’s the scoop, if you see something in the first Walmart flyer that you desperately have to buy, make sure to stop by before this Thursday (unless you see that it’s in the second flyer as well).

So where can you find this elusive second flyer? The good people at Dealcetera have gotten their hands on a copy and scanned it for all to peruse.

A Spot of Tea, Anyone?

Red Rose Tea-tolers, take note: From September 11th to 18th, Walmart has Red Rose Tea (36′s) on sale for just $1!

Now I’m not a tea drinker myself, but did you know that it’s the second-most popular drink in the world? It’s second only to water. Come to think of it, I’m not much of a water drinker either. Way to swim against the current!

Did you know…

In China, the original homeland of tea, a cup of Oolong or green tea is the customary way to welcome a guest. In fact, if tea is not offered immediately by the host, it is clear that he is being either intentionally or absent-mindedly rude.

It was the British (or to be more precise, Anna, the seventh duchess of Bedford), who introduced the delectable custom of afternoon tea to the Western world in the early 1800s. At that time, the English only ate two main meals a day—a hearty breakfast and enormous dinner. Somewhere in between these meals, Anna experienced a “sinking feeling” and so began to prepare small snacks accompanied by tea. The trend quickly spread and grew into a popular tradition.

Still doesn’t do it for me. Sorry.

While Walking Through Walmart…

Here’s another WWTW post for the Wally World enthusiasts. Today’s find: a toy that will surely bring on a wave of nostalgia. Smurf on:

While walking through Walmart, I noticed a “Limited Time Offer” display of The Smurfs 50th Anniversary Special Edition plush toys. (Limited time my aunt fanny; the Smurf’s 50th was in 2008, making this offer about a year late and therefore a clearance deal.) Anyhoo, the Smurf measured about 12 inches high, and when you pressed it’s hand – paw? – it whistled the theme song (la, la, la-la la la…). It also came with a mini golden Smurf figurine, and a DVD of Smurf cartoons. All for $10 – a bargain!

I grabbed one, reasoning that I never had a Smurf as a child, and if Ryder tossed it aside (which he did, le sigh) I would just dump in on my own bed as retro chic. Hubby seconded my vote and placed one in the cart.

When we came to the checkout, my eyes popped open when it scanned in at just $5.00! Holy Hannah, it’s not just retro chic, it’s CHEAP chic too!

Here’s the Smurf, photographed mugshot-style, of course:

And the box so you’ll know what to look for:

I found this deal at the Winston Churchill and Argentia Walmart in Mississauga; at the time, there were about 6 Smurfs left. If you happen to be at your local Walmart, and you’re a Smurf-lover, keep your Smurfs peeled for this Smurf-tabulous deal!

p.s. Did you know that spell check recognizes “Smurf” as a correctly spelled word?

Collect Your Precious Memories!

Thanks to LizaDee for the heads up on this HOT deal!

Tomorrow, for one day only, Walmart Photocentre is celebrating 09.09.2009 (?) with 99 prints for just $9.99! If you’re reading this early in the day and your brain is still in long weekend mode, that’s just $0.10 per print!

Now there’s no fine print to suggest otherwise, but I’ll have to assume we’re talking about 4×6 prints, and you don’t actually need to print 99 pictures. Guess we’ll all find out tomorrow!

This is a great way to print all your summer memories (and those memories from last summer you still have saved on your desktop). Walmart has better-than-decent photo quality, and most orders are ready to picked up in about an hour.

Here’s a tip: if you’re worried that the website will be painfully slow due to the influx of visitors, create an album by uploading your photos today, and simply access the album at your leisure tomorrow to print your pics. Not sure how long Walmart saves photo albums, but I’ve got ones in there since February 2008.

Fantabulous Deal on Pampers!

Here’s a couple of fantabulous deals for parents of wee ones, and mommies-to-be!

This week at Sobey’s in Ontario, Pampers Baby Dry or Cruisers Mega diapers are just $10.97! That’s a savings of about $10 per pack. There is a limit of 4; after the limit, the price is $14.99 (bah! Just go twice).

If you don’t have a Sobey’s near you, see if you can get your hands on a flyer so that you can price match at Walmart or Zellers. Walmart has the same diapers on sale for $13.99; no doubt they’ll do some price adjusting if they catch wind of Sobey’s colossal deal.

If you’ve got a newborn, run to Zellers where they’ve got Pampers Newborn Swaddlers on sale for just $9.99 (reg. $13.99).

And for mommies-to-be and postpartum lovelies, Walmart has Materna (100 caplets) on sale for only $9.97 (reg. $15.97). Depending on the expiry date, I may grab a pack or two for when we start thinking about baby #2 :)

Brightlings Matchers and Dancers – Just $1.96!

I absolutely love Leap Frog’s Brightlings toys. Made especially for infants who are both learning and perfecting motor skills, they come in an assortment of colourful, happy characters that keep my little guy amused for… about 3 minutes. Regardless, they’re great to have on hand, especially for car rides and keeping tiny paws occupied during diaper changes.

Right now at Walmart, you can grab Brightlings “Matchers” and “Dancers” for only $1.96!!! I’m not sure what Walmart normally retails them for, but really, who cares? You’re getting great little gadgets for less than the price of a (Starbucks) coffee.

Brightlings Matchers:

- Mix and match shapes and hues and watch baby explore red, yellow and blue!
- When baby finds a pair, Brightlings Matchers celebrate by glowing, twirling or chiming
- Playing with these differently shaped Matchers helps baby recognize similar objects
- Introduces colors, shapes, action and reaction, creativity and sorting
- Recommended Age Range 6 months and above

Brightlings Dancers:

- Come to life with each bat or push!
- 3 brightly colored, fun-shaped dancers that either whirl, wobble or glow
- Little ones will love to move and groove along with their dancing pals
- Introduces action and reaction, gross and fine motor skills and sensory exploration
- Recommended Age Range 6 months and above

Both are currently selling on Amazon.com for US $16.99! No thank you.

At the Square One Mississauga location, there were two bins full of these toys right by the escalators (or “movators”, if you please). At $1.96, they’ll surely move fast! Here’s a pic so you know what to look for:

I think they’d make great add-ons for a gift, or even a – dare I say it – stocking stuffer. You can’t go wrong with Leap Frog!

Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Getting Started Kit Just $4!

Walmart has an awesome clearance on one of the best baby starter sets around! The Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Getting Started Kit, regularly $19.99, is now available at most Walmart’s for just $4! This is a wonderful kit to give to parents of a new baby, or to pamper your own infant or toddler (and I’m sure mommy can spoil herself with some of the quality products too). I’ve been to three Walmarts across the GTA over the past fews days (please don’t ask) and they were available at all the locations (the clearance sticker price said $10 but when I checked with the self-scanner, they came up at $4 or $5 each). I inspected each package, but could find nothing to suggest the products were past due or damaged.

I also compared with other retailers such as sears.ca, well.ca and even the Burt’s Bees website, and they’re all retailing the kit for $19.99. Not sure why good old Walmart has decided to move them off the shelves, but I’m not going to look a gift set in the mouth.

Included in the kit:

Baby Bee Apricot Baby Oil (1 fl. oz.)
Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion (1 fl. oz.)
Baby Bee Buttermilk Bath (.14 oz.)
Baby Bee Buttermilk Soap (.80 oz.)
Baby Bee Diaper Ointment (.56 oz.)
Baby Bee Dusting Powder (.14 oz.)
Baby Bee Shampoo Bar (.80 oz.)
Baby Bee Comb

A bundle of good things for your bundle of joy. These smaller containers of our most popular natural baby products are a convenient way to nurture your baby from top to bottom. Vitamin-rich botanical oils and extracts make sure baby’s favorite lotions, powders and cleansers give mom and baby something to brag about. As always, they are SLS-, phthalate- and paraben-free.

And apparently, the deal of the week.
