Energizer: Free Their Imagination

The single thing I love most about parenting two toddlers? I never know where their imagination will take them.

You may remember my story of Ryder’s recent jaunt down to our local Mini dealership. (If you missed it, catch the story here - and the awesome follow up here.) Well, one of the things that really stumped Ryder was the red Mini Cooper suspended from the wall.

(“How did it get there? It’s stuck on the wall!! We have to be taller so we can get it down. You go get it Mommy! It needs to come down, it’s lonely. Let’s go get the Mini Cooper on the wall.”)

He talked about it all the way home, and constantly expressed concern for its happiness since it was up there all alone (I love that toddlers think about stuff like that.) And, he was vitally interested in how it made it up there in the first place.

Later that afternoon, he was playing with his arsenal of die cast Mini Coopers when I heard him asking my husband for sticky tape. “Why? What are you doing?” my husband asked. Ryder leaned over and whispered in his ear, and all of a sudden he broke out in a huge grin. “Let’s go!” he told Ryder, instructing me to come to Ryder’s room in about 5 minutes.

What did I find there? Let’s just say it was the power of imagination at work:

LOVE that Ryder had recreated the dealership entrance – and that he had the creativity and enthusiasm to do so. I never know where his little mind will go, and it’s moments like this that make me revel in being a parent to toddlers.

Hahaha the Mini stayed suspended for about 10 minutes before it fell down, but I applaud him for his creativity!
