Children’s Place: Additional 50% off Sale Items

Got a few rug rats on your list this year? Head on over to The Children’s Place, where you’ll score 50% off already reduced merchandise on select styles. Since the entire store seems to be on sale at the moment, you’re sure to find some great pieces for a steal.

Boxing Week Sales!

Only 4 days left until Christmas (which just happens to be my favourite time of year…)

BUT, that means that there’s only 5 days left until Boxing Day! Woot Woot!

Over the years, retailers have abandoned the one-day sale and now offer many of the same discounts in the days leading up to Christmas (and for several weeks after). FANTASTIC for last minute shoppers; not so great for organized people who wrapped up their shopping weeks ago. Thankfully, I have one foot firmly planted in both camps – I like to take advantage of great sales throughout the year, but I always set aside a few bucks for last minute Christmas bonanzas.

Now as much as I’d like to sit here and report on all the flyers and sales, I’ve got a little guy who’s just about to burst from the excitement in the air, presents to wrap, and, for the FIRST TIME EVER, we’re combining both sides of the family (including siblings, in-laws and relations) for a huge turkey celebration under my roof. Just the pressure of being hostess this Christmas has me awake at night – we’ve got a perfectionist on our hands here!

At the same time, I don’t aim to leave ya’ll hanging. So here’s my plan:

I’ll post the deals that most closely relate to the retailers, industries and faves that I normally blog about all year. I reason that you’ve been reading my blog because you like what you see – so I’m not about to start announcing sales at The Stag Shop or NewEgg (though I’m sure they’ll have awesome events just the same).

Granted, my posts will most likely be much shorter and free of my usual banter, in order to get them all in. (If you miss me going on about inane stuff, drop me a line and we’ll chat.)

Now, speaking of getting them all in; well, I can’t. So I’d like to direct you to some amazing sites that can help you with your all your Boxing Day needs:

Red Flag Deals: redflagdeals.com have far and wide been known to post the hottest flyers super early – in fact, you can already view Boxing Day event flyers for stores like Old Navy, Rexall/Pharma Plus and Canadian Tire.

Smart Canucks: LOVE that this forum is driven by members of the community; here you’ll already find over 50 threads with links to flyers, insiders deals and promos.

If you’re on Twitter, do follow @boxingday – RFD’s up-to-the-minute links to Boxing Day flyers.

Again – I won’t be posting flyers here; just super hot deals that I’d normally take advantage of myself. And for those who are wondering, I actually don’t venture out on Boxing Day (haven’t since 1992) but do jump online to grab some awesome deals on electronics and children’s needs.

Happy Shopping!

Lena Loves… President’s Choice CLOSED

***THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ENTERED!***

Okay, so it’s pretty obvious that I didn’t have to preface this post with “Lena Loves.” Anyone who’s ever read my reviews on PC products will attest that I love President’s Choice. I may even be obsessed.

What is it about this brand that makes me want to get a part-time job at Loblaws? (I hear store employees get a cool 10% off their groceries.) I am constantly amazed by their innovative products, delicious recipes and affordable luxuries. In fact, I normally find myself shunning more popular brand-name items in favour of PC’s offerings. And, coming from someone who was raised to only buy the highest quality, that says a lot about my confidence in the company.

PC ketchup. PC baby food. Even PC lawn chairs! If they make it, I’ll buy it.

The President’s Choice concept was developed by a talented group of food-inspired people who knew back in the mid-80s that Canadians deserved better quality food choices for their hard-earned dollars. The premise was simple: develop unique or superior products that offered better value to our shoppers. The idea may have been simple, but few could have anticipated how Canadian consumers would come to embrace the President’s Choice brand to make it one of Canada’s best-known trademarks.

Did you know that today there are over 3,500 PC products, with the most famous being The Decadent Chocolate Chip Cookie? (It’s okay. But my favourite PC product will always be the Double Chocolate Crunch Cereal – thanks to chinwhat for introducing it to me.)

So it’s no surprise that I was super excited when Hill & Knowlton, PC’s PR firm, sent me some decadent and delicious goodies from their 2009 Holiday Insider to try out.

I received (click to enlarge photo):

PC Pad Thai Cooking Sauce
PC Seven Grain Original Snack Crackers
PC Chocolate Covered Gingerbread Bites
PC Whole Wheat Hazelnut Cantuccini Mini Biscotti
PC Gigandes Beans in Vinaigrette

Plus a coolio PC USB and an Insider’s Report. I could hardly wait to sample them all – and to be honest, I actually finished the Chocolate Covered Gingerbread Bites quicker than you can say “220 calories and 13g of fat for 7 pieces.” Wooorth it!

Here’s the lowdown:

Beside being incredibly rich and sweet, the Gingerbread Bites are also perfectly portioned for popping in your mouth any time of the day. A must for white chocolate lovers.

The Seven Grain Crackers were a perfect accompaniment to cheese, spreads, or for simple munching. Though they have a tougher, crunchier consistency than I first assumed, Ryder loves teething on them and always points to them for his afternoon snack.

The Mini Biscotti is a MUST for mid day cappuccinos. Not-too-sweet and loaded with hazelnuts, I am enjoying one as I type. CRUNCH, crunch, crunch. Mmmm.

Now the Gigandes beans were a new product for me – I had never heard of that bean variety and wondered what those gigantic pods would taste like. The verdict: tangy, earthy and smooth – perfect for adding to spreads or dips (or fishing out of the jar and sampling with your fingers as I did).

Finally, I can only describe the Pad Thai cooking sauce one way: legit. When combined with the proper ingredients, it really, really tastes like authentic Pad Thai. The jar comes with cooking instructions, and we followed them to a T. After stir frying veggies and shrimp, we simply added the sauce, PC rice stick noodles, cilantro and chopped peanuts. And after one bite, both Mike and I swore off take-out Pad Thai for good.

All these products can be found in the 2009 Holiday Insider’s Report, which you can now read online! It’s 32 pages chock full of entertaining tips, meal ideas, recipes, and of course, new and exciting PC products. They have over 100 new items you can choose from, including the sensational “Must Try” products that will make this season the most enjoyable and affordable one yet!

So with just one week to go until Christmas, take a look at the Insider’s Report, and be sure to stock up on some sweet, savoury and sensible (Blue Menu) goodies today!

Christmas never tasted so good!

One lucky Listen to Lena! reader will win a President’s Choice Gift Card, valued at $150! To enter, simply:

1) Tell us what your favourite PC product is – including why you love it

-or-
2) Take a look at the 2009 Insider’s Report, and tell us which product(s) you’d like to try this year!

I’ll draw for a winner next Thursday morning – Christmas Eve. And while we won’t be able to send you the gift card in time for Turkey & Mistletoe, I’m certain it’ll be in your hands by New Years Eve – just in time for you to load up on all those party poppers! Thanks to President’s Choice and Hill & Knowlton, and good luck everybody!

Canadian residents only, please.

President’s Choice products are available at Loblaws, Loblaw Great Food, Zehrs, Zehrs Great Food, Fortinos, Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaw Superstore, valu-mart, Your Independent Grocer, Atlantic Superstore, Maxi, Maxi & Cie, no frills, Provigo, Extra Foods and more. Danier: 20-60% off EVERYTHING!

It’s the Danier EVERYTHING sale, where you can save 20-60% off the best winter coats, designer purses and accessories!

The sale runs now thru December 24th, so be sure to stop by and take a peep. I love all things Danier, so I’m definitely keeping FAR away from this one (I know I’ll find a jacket or purse I can’t live without…)

Click here to find a Danier store near you.

The X-Files Ultimate Collection Just $99.99

The truth is out there. And you can get it for under $100.

For a limited time, Amazon.ca is selling The X-Files Ultimate Collection for just $99.99 – savings of $319.99 – 76% off the list price! If you were a fan of the show, I’d say now would be the perfect time to grab this DVD set… which includes a whopping 61 discs! That’s a lot of TV (at just $1.65 per disc).

I had a huge crush on Mulder back in the day – something about his paranoid, smartie pants attitude meshed well with his boy-next-door good looks. Of course, then David Duchovny entered sex rehab for cheating on his wife, and my opinion of the two were forever tied together.

Unfortunately, you probably won’t be able to get this one under the tree – the set ships within 1 to 3 weeks. But at that price, a present in cold January would be nice too.

Click here to purchase The X-Files Ultimate Collection.

Warning: Proud Mommy Moment

My Little Guy is a Little Hottie.

Now I know every mom is prejudice towards their own child, but seriously – isn’t Ryder a cutie? He’s my little heart breaker – I can’t say no! For heaven’s sake, his eyelashes touch his eyebrows!

My husband is nice looking too (but Ryder’s hair is way cooler). Thanks for the good genes, honey :)

Zellers Moonlight Madness

What are you doing this Friday night? I’ll be at home, thank you very much. The last time I went to Zellers Moonlight Madness, I almost lost an eye.

Still, for the deal seekers out there, you don’t want to miss Zellers’ quarterly blowout! Just in time for Christmas, you’ll find amazing prices on tons of gifts and essentials.

As always, they’ll have hourly specials from 6pm to 10pm. This time around:

6pm: Comforter Sets (14 pc Full/Queen or 11pc Twin) $49.99
7pm: Disney Princess or Toy Story Electric Ride On $64.99
8pm: Sesame Street Keyboard with Microphone and Stool $29.99
Also at 8pm: Hamilton Beech 12 Cup Digital Coffee Maker $44.97
9pm: 800 Thread Count Sheet Set (Double or Queen) $39.97
10pm: 64L Underbed Storage Box $14.97

Expect HUGE crowds. Like, a gargantuan amount of people. The store will be closed from 5pm-6pm to prepare for the event, although past experience has shown me that they’re really not prepared at all. Ah well, I still scored those 6-drawer storage towers for only $19.99 last time. Good times indeed.

The Bay: Alexander Julian Mens Shirts $14.99

My husband is going to kill me.

He needs a bathrobe in the worst way, and even after blogging about the fantabulous promo on yesterday (bathrobes just $19.99) I totally didn’t even remember to stop in at The Bay. I had intended to – really – it’s just that I went to have my hair done at Donato in Square One (my colour tech Jermaine is a GENIUS) and as I emerged, a new brunette with a skip in my step, I completely blew off The Bay and walked around the mall sipping a latte instead.

Of course, at about 11pm last night I remembered my only errand besides making myself beautiful – picking up that damn bathrobe. Oh well. He’ll have to make do with his other presents (no hints).

THEN, this morning, he commented on how he could use a few more dress shirts for work. So what did I do? Booked off the A.M. to go shopping for last minute gifts (with the promo below in mind). I had a wonderful time picking out some cute stocking stuffers, electronics for my little guy, and sipped another latte. Then I hummed all the way home. Without stopping by The Bay.

I’m an idiot.

Anyhoo, if you’ve got a guy on your list that you can actually remember to shop for, check out The Bay today, where Alexander Julian Dress Shirts are on for just $14.99 (reg $50). You’ll also find the designer’s 100% silk ties for just $9.99 (reg $30), plus 30% off all other men’s dress shirts and ties (excl West End Shop, Hudson Room, Izod and shirts over $65).

PLUS, if you use the coupon found here, TODAY only, you’ll save $20 off your purchase of $100 or more!

To quote Dr. Claw: I’ll get you next time, honey, next time.

SHOPPING Today!

Hello friends!

I have designated this morning to get my last minute shopping completed, so I’ll be back later this afternoon (hopefully with everyone scratched off my list!)

The gifts I’m buying today are for the people who I had to put a lot of thought into their presents, and therefore could not just buy any old thing before. So to my family – if you receive a present from me, and your gift receipt has a date of December 16th, consider yourself lucky! Ha!

See you soon! Stay warm! xoxo

The Bay: Snuggle Up This Winter

It’s another one day sale!

Today only – Tuesday, December 15thmens and ladies robes, regularly up to $69, are just $19.99. Plus, you’ll find 50% off all mens and ladies slippers (excl $0.99 price endings).

Right now I’m huddled in my husband’s robe, and it has definitely seen better days. Alas, I’ve already exceeded our agreed upon limit for Christmas presents… but life’s too short to not sneak in an extra $20 robe. Happy holidays, sweetheart.

As always: Shop early. Don’t be disappointed. No rain checks and no price adjustments. Offer available while quantities last.

EasyBloom Plant Sensor: This “botanist in a pocket” analyzes local environmental conditions such as humidity, temperature, light conditions and soil drainage, and recommends the best flowers, vegetables or herbs to grow in each location. Not a toy, but a serious tool that will turn kids into pro-am gardeners.

My First Lego Fire Station: An affordably priced introductory set (117 pieces) that lets a child build a classic fire station (complete with stairs and slide) and a fire truck. Warning: could prove addictive.

“Products like these can make you a hero to all the kids on your Christmas list”, says PTPA Media founder Sharon Vinderine. “Our parent testers have declared all these products have been winners in their homes. And since these are all new products, chances are good that the kids in your life don’t have them yet.”

LOVE this press release from mid-November:

NEW YORK: Aéropostale, Inc. (NYSE: ARO), a mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, today announced its plans to donate 100,000 brand new winter coats to homeless teens this holiday season. The donation is the culmination of Aéropostale’s year long initiative to improve the lives of the growing number of homeless teens throughout the United States and Canada.

During the month of November, Aéropostale will be delivering these coats to over 130 shelters and homeless agencies in all 50 states and Canada. Aéropostale designed these 100,000 coats exclusively for this outreach program; they will not be available in its stores or online.

“There are approximately four million teens living on the streets in America,” said Julian R. Geiger, Chairman and CEO at Aéropostale. “Aéropostale is a company that cares. This is a perfect opportunity for us to give back, as every kid needs a warm coat for winter.”

Aéropostale has a long history of supporting teen-related causes, giving back to the local communities it serves and assisting those in need. During the holidays, Aéropostale donates over 50,000 teddy bears to children in pediatric hospitals across the country. Last year, its annual Teens for Jeans campaign distributed over 200,000 pairs of jeans to homeless teens throughout the United States and Canada.
