Lena Loves… Crafty Girl Cards CLOSED

Whenever you read one of those lists about the “Top X” wonderful things in life, receiving a hand made card always seems to make the cut. Quite simply, there are few things as pleasurable as being presented with a unique, colourful and personal item. Day after day, when confronted with mass marketed goods, I tend to seek out distinctive, one a kind pieces that showcase both my style and personality.

So it’s no surprise that I’m loving Crafty Girl Cards. The designer, Karin, got her start in rubber stamping about 15 years ago, after a birthday gift from her mom sparked an interest and subsequently had her hooked. Up until 5 years ago it was just a hobby, but then she began selling her creations at craft fairs and online. “It’s awesome to hear people telling me how much they love my creations,” says Karin. “Someone told me a long time ago that I was quite the crafty girl, and I took up the name for my company.”

Everything is created by Karin in her home stamping studio. In her words:

I like to experiment by stamping on many different surfaces – when I find one that works well I run with it and see what I can make. I have many types of stamps, inks, papers, and embellishments in my arsenal, and I make good use of them! Many of my cards are one of a kind – I like my products to be unique, and I think the buyers do too.

If you’ve ever tried your hand at rubber stamping, you’ll know that it’s tricky! First, you have to make sure that you’ve purchased good quality stamps and ink. Then, you must emit the proper amount of pressure with a steady hand. It’s truly an art form best left to the experts! That’s why I appreciate all the work that is put into the designs. And, on top of the stamping, you’ll also notice the impressive detailing using specialty papers, shapes and embellishments. Magnifique!

In addition to her gorgeous cards, Karin also fashions magnets and key chains recycled from domino pieces:

I search through my stamp collection to find images that will fit nicely onto the dominoes and mess around until it comes out right. My favorite thing to play with these days is alcohol inks – they make for incredible colours and backgrounds that give my domino products an appearance I haven’t seen in anyone else’s work. Good thing too – who wants to be run of the mill?!

Here are sample pics of just a few of her cards and magnets (click to enlarge):

Each one-of-a-kind card comes with a matching envelope in it’s own re-sealable plastic sheath for protection. They all retail for approximately $6 (magnets are $12), making them perfectly affordable, and perfect for giving to somebody special!

Contest Time!

Karin has generously offered one Listen to Lena! reader the chance to win a set of 3 Glitter Shoes Magnets! (value $12)

This fun set of magnets (what girl doesn’t love shoes?) is made from dominoes! They are rubber stamped with permanent ink and then metallic-coloured glitters are applied. The sides are treated with leafing pens and are then coated with fine micro-beads called “Sugar Dust”. But don’t try to eat it!

To enter, simply jump online and tell us what you think of her designs. I’ll draw for a winner next Thursday. Good luck everybody!

So brilliant! As a crafter myself, I'd never have thought about using dominoes for magnets. And the prices are quite remarkable considering the amount of time and effort that must go into these creations.Absolutely wonderful!

I made my own Christmas cards last year… didn't turn out half as nice as Crafty Girl cards. I really love the 'Beautiful Dream' card. The magnets are really great too.
