My readers will know that I attended my brother’s wedding this past weekend. Our entire family had a wonderful time, and I got to experience first hand sitting down to a formal dinner with a bouncy, energetic 15 month old. Ahem. Never again. (Of course, it was rather funny when Ryder threw a spoon at the happy couple during their first dance – and we got to see the utensil bounce and skittle across the dance floor…)
Besides the obvious joy I felt for my brother, I was equally thrilled to have an occasion which allowed me to primp and polish. I type this post wearing my husband’s t-shirt, a fuzzy purple robe and a bird’s nest for hair, so I definitely relish having someone else (preferably an expert) work to make me beautiful.
My mom and I hit Donato in Mississauga bright and early on Saturday morning, with the salon already buzzing with brides-to-be and other wedding parties. I settled to have my hair curled and backcombed for volume, while my mom opted for both a style and makeup application.
Here’s the thing; when you see someone else having their makeup done, plain and simple, you want yours done too. I had decided not to make an appointment for myself, thinking I could do a fair job on my own and save $50 in the bargain. But I was there; the makeup artist had time, and she did a fantastic job on my mom. So I crumbled – and less than 10 minutes later (no lie), I emerged with HAWT mermaid eyes.
I told Leah (the super amazing Donato makeup artist) that I was wearing turquoise and brown, and she asked if I wanted to go dramatic or soft. “DEFINITELY dramatic”, I said. After all, I could do soft. I could do pretty. I wanted downright sizzling.
Using pearlized mineral shadows, she blended bright gold, blue teal and black smoke in a harmonizing wave across my lids, finishing with basic black shadow under the eye and two coats of thickening mascara. I could actually see my eyes pop in the mirror across the salon – for a brief second, I wondered if it was too much. Then I laughed and jumped off the stool. It was freakin’ smokin!
Here’s a picture of her artistic masterpiece (click to enlarge photos):

The obligatory self-shot:

And a picture of me and my mama (although I don’t look remotely related to her, I’d like to think I inherited some of her gorgeous genes just the same):

What do you think about the eye makeup ladies? HAWT or not?
***Edit***
As I was responding to comments, I remembered that Donato has a makeup application promotion – you actually receive $50 worth of products when you have your makeup done. So I picked up a lipstick and lipgloss (which conveniently came out to exactly $50) – making my makeup application – in theory – FREE!
