With Love from 5th Avenue…

… this good girl has worked very hard to save many pennies over the past year – uncovering deals, shopping sales, and clipping coupons like Edward Scissorhands.

Therefore, it’s only fitting that she blows it all in 48 hours. Mwah! Lena and Rubes send ya’ll lots of love from New York, New York!

Kitchen Stuff Plus Red Hot Deals! (Expired)

I love Kitchen Stuff Plus! They are sooo great for finding cool, funky home designs for a fraction of the price you’d pay at department stores. And until April 6th, their Red Hot Deals event is in full swing! This blogger WILL be there!

Here’s a copy of their latest flyer.

My picks? How about Umbra Wall Clocks for only $25.00 – that’s 50% off! Or better yet… the Umbra Digilicious Digital Photo Frame Collage – with 512 MB of memory – for only $69.00! That’s a savings of $80.00! Tell me that wouldn’t look seriously cool on your end table :)

The flyers showcases just a few of the sale items – there’s more to please in-store. So stop reading and staaaart the car!

Breakwater Restaurant at the Waterside Inn

I have the privilege of having wonderful, caring friends, and I do love breaking bread with them. That’s why it was lovely to have spent Sunday morning with AC, Trola and Hubby at Breakwater Restaurant at the Waterside Inn. AC graciously treated us to Sunday brunch, and it was thoroughly, deliciously enjoyable!

The Waterside Inn is located in Port Credit; Mississauga’s lakefront tourist hub. The view from the restaurant depicts the beautiful harbour, and, especially on sunny days, makes you long to get out on the water.

The servers are extremely efficient (sometimes to a fault – one server whisked away part of a dessert before it made it to the table!) The manager – or someone who fit the bill – came around at least twice to inquire about our dining experience, and seemed genuinely interested in our response to both the food and service.

I enthusiastically selected from the Brunch Menu: Applewood Smoked Salmon served with Two Poached Eggs on Toasted Pumpernickel, finished with a Light Dill Sauce. The salmon and eggs were perfectly paired, and although I skipped the dill sauce, a teeny taste confirmed that it was smooth and tangy. A baby leaf salad served on the side completed the plate, and while I could not pinpoint the exact flavours (I want to say grape seed oil and sherry vinegar) it was enjoyable nonetheless.

Just the right amount of food for brunch, which of course left room for dessert. As I went for a less-than-inspiring fruit plate, I had a chance to marvel at AC’s Bananas Foster – flambéed table side with Cherry and Apricot brandies, and served over Honey Vanilla Ice Cream. What is it about warm, gooey bananas drenched in brandy that makes me swoon? Oh, I know, it’s the warm-gooey-bananas-drenched-in-brandy part.

An altogether wonderful meal shared with wonderful friends. Thank you again AC, we’re looking forward to our next culinary adventure!

‘Tis the Weekend… (Expired)

… for sales! Why-oh-why does almost every store need to throw their sale on at the same time? My credit card is still mad at me for the mad swiping during the Gap Family & Friends last week (though Ryder is sure to be the best dressed little charmer on the block)!

I’ll have to sit a few of these out… but sadly, yes, I will be a Walmart at 7:00am tomorrow to grab the Twilight DVD :) I know, I know. The movie is horrid in comparison to the books. But with enough makeup and just the right lighting, Rob Pattison’s Edward Cullen makes for some gooooood daydreams… le sigh….

Time to STACK!!! (Expired)

Tomorrow, Thursday, March 12th, is the day to STACK SALES. What do I mean by this? Well, Old Navy is currently having their “Funda- mentals” sale, which ends tomorrow. And, tomorrow, the Family & Friends 30% off sale begins. That means, for basics such as tees, tanks, denim and khakis, you can grab a bunch at an insanely low price!!!

Now I’m not a huge Old Navy shopper for myself, but love buying stuff for my little guy. Their baby department is chalk full of cute stuff at great prices! For example, toddler denim, regularly $19.50, is currently on sale for $10.50 (ending tomorrow). When I combine that with the 30% F&F discount, I can score Ryder a sweet pair of jeans for only $7.35! That’s over 60% off the regular price!

So if you’d like to stock up on the basics for summer, or if you’ve got lil’ ones to shop for, tomorrow is your lucky day! To get a copy of the Friends & Family discount, just scroll down :)

FREE Pledge Multi-Surface Spray

I am so NOT into dusting, which is why this freebie is going straight to hubby. For a limited time, you can grab a coupon for your own FREE Pledge Multi-Surface Spray, which can be used on Metal, Wood, Glass and Electronics. And, with scents such as Lavender Fresh and Rainshower, who knows? You may just catch me wiping down the ol’ television.

To grab your coupon, click here.

Note: save.ca has changed its policy; you now have to register and sign in before retrieving coupons. This makes good sense on their end, in order to limit the number of coupons that are printed, mailed out, and subsequently not used. So please, if you request a coupon, make sure to redeem it :)

GAP Give & Get – Save 30% off Everything! (Expired)

Thanks to AC for the heads up on this fantabulous deal! 4 days only, March 12-15, 2009, you can save 30% off everything at the GAP Family of stores, including Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy. If that wasn’t motivation enough: this sale isn’t just any old Friends & Family event – it’s a Give & Get:

We’d like to offer you 30% off during our Friends & Family event. We’re calling it Give & Get because for every purchase you make from March 12-15, we’ll give 5% to our non-profit partners: Boys and Girls Club of Canada, CARE Canada and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.

Now that’s a winning idea and wonderful incentive, and I encourage everyone to come out and shop during this event!

To print off your official invitation, click here.

I am LOVING Banana Republic’s Monogram Trench in white – and am thinking that this sale could not have come at a better time :)

Parent Tested, Parent Approved!

As a new mom, I’m constantly on the lookout for safe, fun, and of course, top quality products for both baby and me. But the task can be daunting – especially when bombarded with loads of pushy ads, hysteria for the latest craze, and elite-brand positioning.

If you’re a fellow parent (or happen to know one), I don’t have to tell you that TRUST becomes a crucial factor, almost like a crutch, for every purchase made for our little ones. Where was the product manufactured? What is the company’s reputation? How can I find out more information? And, most importantly, Whom can I trust?

When it comes to baby products, I trust other moms. I speak with them while window shopping; I corner them in the baby food aisle of supermarkets; and I constantly chat online via the numerous mommy boards. (Hubby has yet to see a woman with a stroller that I haven’t sidled up to!) That’s why I was thrilled to discover PTPA Media (Parent Tested Parent Approved) last year at the Baby Time Show in Toronto.

PTPA, as the name suggests, promotes products that have been tested and approved by real parents, not fresh-faced marketing execs. So you have confidence knowing that the same person who loves a certain product is probably facing some of the same issues as you – whether it be a colicky baby, poor breast milk flow, toilet training woes or curious little Einsteins. It once again comes down to, you know it, trust.

Here’s a sample of some of PTPA Media’s Award Winning Products from the 2008 Holiday Season:

Radio Flyer Lites and Sounds Trike and Radio Flyer Turbo Turtle * The Bugaboo Cameleon * Zinkotek * Skoodlez * Alphabet Soup Rocker * Wowwee Alive Club * Loveable Labels * Cushie Baby Mat * Be Be Au Lait Signature Towel * The Britax Boulevard CS * Teething Bling * Medela Freestyle * Lila Bean LLC Nursing Cover * Johnson & Johnson’s Penaten Creme * My 411 Wristbands by Mabels Labels * TootnTinkle Toilet Training

For a complete list of all Award Winning Products, and links, click here.

And here’s the best part – if you are a parent, have an opinion, and love to share your findings with others – in a nutshell: me (stalking other moms at Walmart and explaining the benefits of Aveeno Baby bath products – even though they’re looking at jarred baby food and asking if I work there – I don’t), then you have the opportunity to become a Parent Evaluator!

Here’s what you have to do: Register on PTPA’s website as an Evaluator. If selected, a product is sent to you free of charge and is yours to keep, in exchange for your detailed feedback on your experience with it. And most importantly, your feedback is used to help determine if the product earns PTPA’s Seal of Approval! It’s that easy and that rewarding. I have had the pleasure of evaluating two (2) products for PTPA, and the process could not be easier – or more fun! Ryder’s bottom LOVED the MD Moms Baby Silk towelettes I tested :)

Can I get a Woot! Woot! for safe, trusted baby products!

PC Memories of Portugal Piri Piri BBQ Sauce

Here I go again… Practically Pimping PC Products (say that 5 times fast!)

But it’s no secret that I love them. And yes, it was worth switching supermarkets :) My latest craze is PC Memories of Portugal Piri Piri Barbecue Sauce.

Now THIS is a barbecue sauce. Hot red pepper spice, tempered in a tomato-cream base, and finished with a lemon-citrus twist – this sauce is INSANELY good as a marinade for chicken or shrimp, or as a dipping sauce for plain, breaded wings. And while it’s hot (I won’t lie, it’s HOT): around here, the spicier the better!

Try these recipes from the President’s Choice website for Piri Piri Chicken and Potatoes and Piri Piri Shrimp with Avocado Salad. Sooo good.
