ELLE Canada – 12 Issues for $12

As an avid reader of absolutely everything, it doesn’t take much to persuade me to get more literature in the house. That’s why I love ELLE Canada’s 12 issues for $12 promo.

For a dollar per issue (or, 1/4 the price of one Starbuck’s latte) you can read up on beauty, fashion, decor, health and other girlicious topics every month. It’s the perfect coffee table magazine – easy reading and something to reach for when you have a few free moments.

If I haven’t sold you yet, picture this… A stack of 12, entertaining magazines, versus:

1. Parking downtown for 3 hours
2. A glass of wine at a restaurant
3. Six helium balloons from Party Packagers

What a bargain! And another bonus: when your subscription is almost through, you have the option of renewing again for $1 per issue, or cancelling altogether.

To order your 12-month subscription of ELLE Canada, please click here.

(The large writing may say 12 issues for $15, but when you scroll down to the bottom it will read $12.60 which includes GST. You will also be able to confirm the subscription price after you enter your credit card information and before you hit submit.)

Yellow Jersey Wine (Expired)

While strolling through the LCBO last autumn (with those cute mini-sized grocery carts – my favourite part about visiting the LCBO), I encountered a Sample Lady dishing out generous portions of a new French wine called “Yellow Jersey”. I took a sip of their 2006 Sauvignon Blanc, and although it didn’t blow me away, it was a pleasant experience, conjuring visions of juicy, tart apples. “Nice”, I offered, and meant it.

I later looked up the company in my go-to resource, The Toronto Life Wine Guide. Says TTLG:

This is a new listing. The sauvignon blanc is the best of the four plastic-bottled Yellow Jersey varietals from Boisset. With grapes sourced from the Loire region, the wine is light, fresh and sweetish, with green apple and lime flavours. There is some wet stone on the finish. Good length.

“Hmmm, perhaps I will try it in the future.”

Well, the future for me is NOW, as the wine is currently on sale at the LCBO. All four varietals are $4.00 off – sale price $5.95. What a great time to try something new – especially when I can afford to drink a lot of it (which, depending on how my day went, can be a necessary thing).

Sport Chek Family & Friends (Expired)

Sport Chek and Coast Mountain Sports are having their bi-annual Family & Friends sale, this Wednesday and Thursday (Jan 28th & 29th). With this invitation, you can take 25% off regular priced items, and 10% off all other sale and clearance merchandise. With the January and February blahs in full swing, maybe it’s time to grab that pair of cross-trainers in anticipation of a warmer running season!

BCBG Winter Clearance! (Expired)

Friends will remember the little blue number I bought from BCBG two years ago for $595… At the time, I remember thinking, “Am I really going to spend $684.25 on a dress I’ll probably only wear once?”

The answer, of course, was yes. For I could not resist the poetic, tulle layers; the intricate pearl beading; and the soft, lullaby blue shade.
And in case you’re wondering – I found TWO occasions to dazzle in it! Only $342.13 per wear… and while that certainly doesn’t classify as a hot deal, someone definitely looked HOT wearing it! Woot! Woot!

Of course, my spending habits have since changed and I no longer jump at the opportunity to drop a car payment on a dress. What I now do is keep my eyes and ears open for fantabulous sales, and it looks like good old Max Azria is delivering big time.

Effective immediately, BCBG Max Azria is clearing out their Winter 2008 Collection (while the website is in US dollars, I can assure you that many of the styles can be found in store for comparable sale prices).

A quick peek into the Square One location confirmed that there are tons of pretty numbers on clearance – bubble styles, long and lean, and high, biased-cut wonders – perfect for the upcoming wedding season (which I can’t believe is just around the corner).

In my humble opinion, no one does it better than Max. And in case you were curious, here’s that little blue number.

Winners/Homesense Customer Appreciation… (Expired)

… gets you 15% off everything on Thursday, January 22nd. I know, not exactly a “hot” deal per se, but when you factor in that their prices are already 40-60% off retail, you’re still saving a few extra bucks.

What to do with your savings? Go enjoy a grande, non-fat latte on me :)

I Love Fighters

More specifically, I love our own Georges St. Pierre. And on January 31st, he’s defending his Welterweight Title against BJ Penn; a fight I am looking forward to with unabashed girlish enthusiasm. GSP! GSP!

Georges just happens to be featured on the cover of Men’s Fitness this month… and below is crucial footage from the photo shoot. Yum.

As always, there’s an open invitation to everyone who would like to join us for the fight – snacks served at 9:00pm, shenanigans begin at 10:00!

RIP Hearthrob Joaquin…

The HOT Joaquin Phoenix has bought the farm. Last I remember, he was gorgeous, charismatic… and on my celebrity list of well, you know, people you’d have to sleep with if for some unfathomable reason they magically appeared on your doorstep after driving out to Mississauga simply to pleasure you (Mr. Pitt tops that list, of course).

Well… after retiring from acting, looks like good ol’ Joaquin has trading the silver screen for, ahem, hip hoppin’. The end of time is near. Be forewarned.

Ladies & Gents: Meet Penelope

When you clip as many coupons as I do, it’s understood that the occasional splurge is not only advisable, but unequivocally – and undeniably – necessary.

After all, it is healthy to want. To desire. To covet. And at this very moment, I am coveting Coach’s Penelope Leather Shopper from their coveted 2009 Spring Collection.
Touted as the most desirable new purse from Coach (which frankly irks me, seeing as I discovered this gem virtually the second it was unveiled), the stylishly beautiful, roomy design is complete with a center divider zip pocket, an exterior front zip with inside pocket. Gorgeous and functional!
The shopper comes in five drool-worthy colours: soft lilac, ebony, cobalt, coral and snow white. With a price tag of US $348, my ever-practical inner voice urges me to go for ebony (black), as I will get the most wear all year round. But… the soft lilac beckons me. Teasing me. Shamelessly flaunting her pretty, romantic hue. And I crumble; I am hooked. I want the Coach Penelope Leather Shopper in Soft Lilac. Le sigh.
Pray, friends, that I may be united with this Leather Goddess soon.

P&G Brandsampler – Limited Time Only!!! (Expired)

The P&G Brandsampler is back!

What is the Brandsampler? Well, quite simply, you must fill out a very quick questionnaire, and, based on your responses, P&G will allow you to choose from many FULL SIZE and trial size samples. Then they mail them to your house. And that’s it – until the next Brandsampler becomes available, and you get to choose all over again!

Here is what’s up for grabs this time:

Olay Definity Re-Energizing Serum & Olay Night Restorative Sleep Cream
Herbal Essences Shampoo & Conditioner

Head and Shoulders Shampoo

The last time Brandsampler was around, my stash included a Gillette Fusion Razor and Pantene Expressions Haircare, which I’ve since blogged about and of course recommended! This time I’m super excited to receive the dental floss (don’t ask) and the Gillette Body Wash for hubby (love the super clean scent).

But it doesn’t end there – they also send you high value coupons so that you can go out and buy the product if you like it… clever marketing for sure, but hey, I’m okay with a $6.00 off coupon for Pantene Expressions, especially since Walmart retails it for $6.93!

Joe Fresh Clearance (Expired)

Start the caaaaar!!!

My favourite line of casual and comfortable clothing, Joe, is having their annual massive Fresh clearance sale. Everything except new arrivals is discounted, with crazy prices such as $2.94 for sports bras, $1.94 for t-shirts, $6.94 for casual dresses and $4.94 for pyjama sets.

(Sorry I can’t speak to the deals for the fellas, but trust me, they do exist and I’m sure they’re fantabulous.)

And my favourite part of the sale – babies wear of course! Onesies for $0.94, tops for $1.94 and bottoms for $2.94! If you have a little one to shop for, you definitely have to stop by and stock up!

Joe can be found in virtually every Loblaws and Superstore. For my peeps in ‘Sauga, the Superstore at Mavis/Dundas generally has a pitiful selection, but the Loblaws at Glen Erin/Eglinton and the Superstore at Winston Churchill/401 have HUGE departments with great selections and deals to be found!

Happy Shopping!
