LNT Liquidation Begins!

Last week (or 8 blogs ago to be exact), I let ya’ll know that Linens ‘n Things Canada had filed for bankruptcy protection. Unfortunately, it looks like they’ve met their doom because they have officially declared they’re going out of business. Here’s what I predicted:

“I expect they will start with 30% off the entire store and go up from there, until all merchandise is sold. All sales final, of course.”

Am I good or what? Their latest flyer promises all items will be discounted up to 30% off, all sales final. You can find their flyer here.

It looks like LNT’s website is up and running again, so you may want to check out some of the prices online to see if it’s worth the trip into the store. The website, however, is still displaying some prices without the markdowns, so to avoid confusion, I’d say shop in-store. Hope you find a deal!

Hoodies and Panties (Expired)

What else do you buy at American Eagle? I suppose the odd pair of jeans. But I generally know them for two things: Hoodies (the stuff you wear over your clothes) and Panties (the stuff you wear under your clothes).

Now through November 5th, take this coupon into AE and get 20% off your purchase (whatever it may be). To print your coupon, click here.

OMFG!!! Serious Snacking Alert

OMFG! Miss Vickie’s Rosemary and Basil Potato Chips. They have renewed my faith in seriously delicious snacking. And yes, the keyboard is getting increasingly greasy as I type this.

I love roasted potatoes with rosemary, so when I saw the chips I thought, hmmm, these may actually taste alright. Alright? Try TASTE-TABULOUS!!!

The herbs give a huge burst of flavour, which complements the crunchy, salty potato chip. Now we all know that Miss Vickie’s chips are a little on the oily side, but so what? None of ya’ll are going to live forever. And I love the fact that they are MSG-free, making them the only flavoured chips I could eat while I was pregnant (can you believe even Quaker Crispy Minis have MSG? So much for healthier snacking).

Give them a try, I really think you’ll like ‘em as much as I do. Gotta put the bag away… one more chip… aww, it’s a small one… just one more…

This One’s For Ingie (Expired)

One of my besties, Ing, always manages to find beautiful, chic clothes at Club Monaco. I love the look, but can’t seem to carry them with the same cool style. Perhaps I’ll be enticed to take a another peek this weekend: $50 for every $150 you spend at Club Monaco, October 24th to 26th, 2008. No coupon required, offer is valid at all Club Monaco locations in Canada.

Where I’ll be Shopping, October 24-30th (Expired)

In several conversations about food and the like with my girls, we’ve discovered that we generally like to eat the same food. While it’s nice to have the same tastes, a raiding of each other’s pantries doesn’t always bring up great finds – rather the same sort of stuff we already have at home.

In that spirit, since I have time to peruse online flyers, I thought I’d let my girls know where I’ll be shopping this week, so they can stock their fridges with the same goodness for the same low price.

I have a system. On Thursday morning, I sit down with a cup of joe and go through the several links which have magically appeared in my inbox overnight: online flyers for Loblaws, No Frills, Sobeys, etc. Then I determine where the most deals are related to groceries I usually buy. This determines where I’ll do my grocery shopping for the week.

Simple, and saves a bundle over time (every month, net savings +/- $50). And living in Mississauga, every grocery chain is no more than a 5 minute drive away!

I’ll be shopping at Food Basics this week. Here are some deals:

  • Dr. Oetker Pizza, Ristorante or Casa di Mama, $2.99
  • Selected Cereals and Bars (Cheerios, Honey Bunches, Nature Valley), 3 for $5.00
  • Astro Yogurt, 750g tub, $1.99
  • Coke or Pepsi products, 12 x 355ml, 3 for $10.00 (stock up for the holidays)
  • Dole Salad Mix, $1.99
  • Clementines, box, $3.99

For the complete flyer, click here.

Happy Shopping!

Proctor & Gamble Warehouse Sale (Expired)

I love Saaaaless… okay that was my cheap attempt to channel Goldfinger from the Austin Powers series… you know, I love Goooold… whatever. It’s more funny if you say it aloud. Try it.

Anyhoo, I missed the P&G sale in May as I was nearing whale-like proportions at 9 months preggo, so I’m looking forward to this one!

“Bi-annual Procter & Gamble Warehouse Sale – offers 80,000 sq ft of cosmetics, health & beauty care, home care, laundry and baby care featuring Cover Girl, Tide, Pampers, Mr. Clean, Herbal Essences, Pantene, Crest, Olay, Bounty and many other brand name products at reduced prices up to 75%. Stock up now for all your household needs.”

The sale is from November 16th-30th at the International Centre, 6900 Airport Road in Mississauga. After the last sale my friend Krazy Lotus (http://krazylotus.blogspot.com/) sent me a note saying that people were grabbing boxes and boxes of Pampers – guess what? I WILL be one of those crazies this time around!!!

I never thought I’d fall in love again…

…until now. We just purchased the Canon SD1100 IS Digital Camera. It’s fantabulous! We really needed a basic camera for taking pictures of the little one, and wanted something affordable, yet functional. Granted, hubby and I are not expert photographers, and we’re not tracking lions in the Serengeti. But we wanted a camera which took a good picture of our ever-ready model, Ryder-Roonie.

The Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH is an 8-Megapixel, super-compact stylish camera with 3x optical zoom (38-115 mm equivalent), optical image stabilization (hence the model number includes IS), large 2.5-inch LCD screen, zooming optical viewfinder and face detection.

The camera is very easy to use; the menus are intuitive and I like that it’s a no-brainer to hand off to friends and family to take a quick shot (gone are the days of “What do I press?” asked by the random dude who agreed to take a picture of you in front of the Falls).

Now I’m more techno than technology so you’ll have to do a search to find out all the specs, but needless to say you’ll find it to be competively priced for what you’re getting, and I hear Canon’s been doing this camera thing for a few years now.

Girlie Note: It comes in 5 colours – Silver, Bronze, Gold, Pink and Ice Blue (we got the Blue one, tee hee!)

RIP LNT… Get Ready for HUGE Sales!

It’s official: Linens ‘n Things may be going out of business (they filed for bankruptcy protection last week). Surprised? Not really, considering they push mostly overpriced goods, tempting us with the odd 20% off coupon. Even then, I still can’t afford their $450.00 Bed-in-a-Bag.

LNT in the States filed for bankrupcy back in May, but at the time, the press release stated that Canadian stores would not be affected. Laugh! Since when does a business stay profitable when it’s US parent tanks? Ah well, I do feel for the many employees, particularly in this less-than-desirable economy.

All that aside, expect HUGE sales over the next couple of weeks/months… and if you’re hanging on to a gift card from the store, now is definitely the time to use it (before the store closes it’s doors for good).

I expect they will start with 30% off the entire store and go up from there, until all merchandise is sold. All sales final, of course.

Mark Cosmetics

I LOVE THE HILLS!

What does this have to do with Mark Cosmetics?

Lauren Conrad is the official spokeperson for Mark. Since I always think she looks fab, I checked out their website to see what the makeup is all about. NEWSFLASH! I was very surprised to discover that Mark is in fact Avon’s younger, fresher line! Am I the last to figure this out?

I’ve always associated Avon with slippery, wrinkled magazines that co-workers circulate about, stating “Contact Maryann if you’d like to order!” Not very impressive.

However, I am impressed with Laura Conrad and her bronzer, brow highlighter and lip gloss. So I found the Canadian Website for Mark and began gleefully dropping things in my virtual shopping cart. Product reviews to follow!

If you’re thinking of grabbing some yourself, use coupon code AVON35 at checkout for free shipping on orders over $35, or coupon code LSFREE50 for free shipping on orders over $50.

Dr. Oetker Frozen Pizza

By no means am I a pizza connoisseur, but I do know what I like. Thin crust, flavourful sauce, and lots of fresh-tasting veggies (I’m still searching for the perfect pepperoni).

Which is why I was pleasantly surprised when I tried Dr. Oetker frozen pizza. It’s really good! The toppings are tasty, the crust is always crispy, and the pizzas have the perfect balance between cheese and sauce. It is far superior to any other frozen pizza on the market, making it the #1 thin crust pizza in Canada.

My favourites include:

Ristorante Spinaci
This unique pizza is layered with sun-ripened tomatoes, savoury leaf spinach, cheese and mozzarella, perfected by a hearty garlic sauce.

Ristorante Funghi
The most preferred vegetable pizza. Enjoy this vegetable pizza with its many aromatic mushrooms, fruity tomatoes, tasty cheese and fine mozzarella cheese.

~and from their Casa di Mama line~

Ultimate Spicy Pepperoni
For those looking for a little “kick” in their pizza, Authentic Italian Pizzeria style crust topped with a piquant tomato sauce, pepperoni and peppers.

The pizzas usually retail for between $4.79 and $5.49 and will serve 2 comfortably.

For a limited time, grab a couple of coupons. Let me know if you like it as much as I do!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here’s a quick and easy side dish you’ll “gobble-gobble” up! Enjoy!

SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE

4-5 cups cooked and mashed sweet potatoes
½ cup butter, melted
1/3 cup milk
1 cup white sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup light brown sugar
½ cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup butter
1 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.

In a large bowl, mix together mashed sweet potatoes, ½ cup melted butter, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and eggs. Spread sweet potato mixture into the prepared baking dish. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and flour. Cut in 1/3 cup butter until mixture is crumbly, then stir in pecans. Sprinkle pecan mixture over the sweet potatoes.

Bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Serves 4-6.
